The following giving and receiving is very formal. It is reserved for adults who feel comfortable in more formal situations and formal society. Children only use it everyday when acknowledging the presence of the Divine or a gift from God かみさま before eating or drinking. Teachers would use it when speaking to the principal, staff when speaking to a Managing Director, and everyone when communicating with members of the Imperial Family.
