Shopping 買い物 かいもの
This is what everyday shops look like. Some shops are in the newer suburbs, others are either more downtown, or perhaps the older parts of town. As public transport is amazing, all shops are so easily accessible. If you have time after work (shops are open till very late), many parts of the shopping precincts have lit-up advertising all night long, so it is never dark at night. Otherwise during the weekend (if you don’t have to work) you can go shopping all day long. A million shops to choose from!
Really this areas is not unlike any American, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand shopping precinct. The writing is different and there is a more varied and interesting choice in Japan (personal opinion).

Not to worry, you will not be alone. There are an awful lot of people who have an awful lot of money.
Or just in the city, out and about with young people.
