Japanese sandwiches are something to experience. They taste great and they look great. As most of the photos show, there is a tendency to cut off the crusts. It seems a bit extravagant, but it does make them look interesting.

The next feature of Japanese sandwiches is the type of filling. Lots of cottage cheese, lots of fruit, lots of potato salad (?) and lots of deep-fried fillings. Unusual in the western cuisine. But they taste great!

Usually the word “sandwich” is abbreviated to サンド.

Sometimes they are called オープンサンド, which means “open sandwich”.

The triangular sandwich wrapped in cellophane is a rather common standard form as one may see in a sandwich bar or in the supermarket. They are for office workers for lunch on the run.

You have to admit: all these look well-organised sandwiches. Nothing random and nothing slapdash here! Lately, more sandwiches are made with brown bread, so the nutritional value goes up a bit.
