Kamakura Daibutsu 鎌倉 大仏 かまくらだいぶつ

Originally there was a building around the statue.

The earliest statue was made of wood.

Statue with Buddhist monk.

This statue is made of bronze panels and they have been joined into a complete body shape. The statue is therefore hollow, so one can visit inside the statue – an extra small donation is required.

The site is presently very beautiful. Beautifully manicured and maintained. However, this area of Kamakura is regularly visited by storms and over the hundreds of years most of the building work around the statue has been destroyed. However, this bronze statue has sat here for a good 700 years – apparently unmovable.

His slippers – sweet.
